About Me

My work is inspired by landscapes on Earth and imagery from space — places shaped by huge forces that often appear calm and still. I’m drawn to the bird’s-eye perspective.  Looking down on a world shaped by immense forces that, from a distance, appears perfectly still, where patterns emerge and everything feels a little quieter and more open. That sense of distance and freedom feeds into how I think about space, scale, and calm in my paintings.

I enjoy working with texture in a very hands-on way. Building the surface is an important part of the process for me — it’s physical, tactile, and slow. I apply modelling paste to create ridges and grooves, then soften the surface with blended acrylics before letting inks and water move naturally across the canvas. This balance between intention and release is central to how each piece develops.

Gold is applied sparingly to the raised texture, catching the light and picking out details that are already there. The finished pieces aren’t about telling a fixed story, but about creating a sense of space and stillness — something you can pause with, rather than analyse.”

“My days are now spent in the studio, but my approach is informed by my previous career as a Design Technology teacher and my time in the creative media industry. During my years teaching children with special educational needs—focusing on animation, digital photography, and graphics—I learned the true value of patience and adaptability.

Working in such a creative, neurodiverse environment gave me an openness to different ways of seeing and processing the world. That mindset is central to my practice today; it allows me to balance intentional design with the organic, unpredictable nature of the materials I use on canvas.

“We asked Chris to create an original piece of art as a gift for a friends 60th birthday. What he gave us was truly outstanding.  His communication with us throughout the process of creating something so special was excellent. When we opened the wrapping and saw it for the first time we were beyond words.”

“I met Chris and fell in love with two of his paintings and knew I had to have them. I saw Chris again, and bought another painting for my son’s birthday.
He is so happy with it.”
